Why Celebrate Recovery Gifts
Journeys of Life has its roots in 12 Step Recovery. From the beginning our mission has been to serve the Recovery Community in Pittsburgh. The support of this community has made it possible to grow and thrive when other 12 Step Stores around the country were failing. We began when there were no Big Box Stores where we could buy literature to support recovery. It was difficult to find gifts that were suitable for recovery celebrations. Journeys of Life began filling that void and never looked back.
Celebrate Recovery Gifts is in response to the many visitors we have had at our Pittsburgh location who wanted to be able to purchase meaningful gifts for themselves and their friends in Recovery. Jean Haller has been buying gifts at markets around the country, scouring vendors to find unusual and affordable merchandise that would stand out as being different for 26 years. Celebrate Recovery Gifts thoughtful products showcase handmade gifts that represent what Recovery is all about and offer different takes on well known slogans.
What better way to celebrate your recovery or that of a friend than with a personalized gift. Celebrate Recovery Gifts provides those for you, offering jewelry, plaques and other gifts with individual Sobriety dates and Clean time. We hope you love our products as much as we do.
About Jean Haller
Jean knew there was a need for a place like Journeys of Life when she was unable to find recovery books at mall bookstores. So in 1989 she took decided to provide Recovery books and gifts for herself and others in the Pittsburgh area She knew that if there is a will, there’s a way—beginning with taking that first step which is how she started the business. She had no retail experience, just an innate knowing about how it worked. Through trial and error Journeys of Life has grown to be the community resource it is today. Jean is a community advocate, a Board Member at Gateway Rehabilitation Center, mentors high school students at The Neighborhood Academy and has been honored locally and nationally for her involvement with non profit groups. She is contributing editor to a retail trade magazine and is a national educator and trainer for retailers. Jean and Hal, her husband of 39 years, live in Pittsburgh. They have two grown children. They both love to travel when there is tie and are avid Pittsburgh Penguin hockey fans. Most importantly, Jean is Morgan and Marley’s YaYa, a job she takes very seriously. All of this is only possible through God’s grace and the Fellowship that changed her life.
Journey’s of Life History
Journeys of Life is tucked away on a quiet side street in a five block residential neighborhood shopping district known as Shadyside, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Opened in 1989, in an 800 square-foot second floor walkup, the focus was primarily books about life issues, 12 step recovery, and gifts that would support those topics. Journeys quickly outgrew the original location and in 1991 moved to the present location on Bellefonte Street, a two story building, originally a flower shop, with 2,000 square feet of selling space and lots of windows and skylights. The added space allowed for expansion of topics covered in the second floor book department, while the first floor evolved as an eclectic gift shop. Journeys of Life is a store with product that inspires, delights, educates, brings meaning and joy.
In November 2011 Journeys of Life was destroyed by an early morning electrical fire. The building and its contents were declared a total loss. Through the determination of the staff, owners, community and many friends near and far, the store was relocated around the corner for six months within two weeks of the fire. In May of 2012 Journeys returned to the totally renovated building on Bellefonte St where it remains today.
